Bleed your radiators
Maintaining your radiators helps to maintain your boiler and they may need to be bled from time to time. If you’ve noticed that heat is distributed unevenly throughout your radiators, there may be a problem with trapped air. This can be resolved by bleeding the radiators; simply open the valve until you hear the trapped air being released. Once water starts to drip out, close the valve up tightly.
Clear away clutter
Boilers need to be well ventilated to function efficiently, so keep them clear and free of any clutter. If your boiler is inside a cupboard it can be tempting to use this as an extra storage space, but try to keep clutter and items around your boiler to a minimum. An engineer will be able to tell you whether you need more ventilation during your annual boiler service.
Check the pressure
Boilers can lose pressure over time, which decreases their efficiency. Check the pressure gauge every couple of months to make sure it’s at a good level. Anything below one is considered low but the pressure can be easily topped up. If you feel confident you can do this yourself or ask your local plumber for help.
